Create your Message

Before sending your payment request, you must first create your message templateYou will create a message for your payment request to be sent by both text message and emailEach message will have some text informing your customer or donor of the purpose of their payment, and use #tags which will be unique for each request, such as the payment link or amount requested.

Write your Message

It is recommended to delete and create new message templates rather than editing existing templates in order to clear formatting.

Step 1: Go to the Setup Menu by clicking on your email address at the top right. Select ‘Message Template’.

Step 2: Create a new template. Click the ‘+ New Template’ button.

Step 3: Craft your message. When finished click ‘Submit’.

Template Name: This is how your template will appear in the merchant portal.

Subject: This will be the subject of your payment request when sent via email.

Payment Type: Determine whether your message template will be used for ‘Single Payment’ or ‘Recurring’ payments.

SMS: Create the text message portion of your payment request here. Use tags to show details like the amount requested from your customer or donor. ALWAYS include the #url# tag to allow your customer or donor to pay.

Note: SMS’s are limited to 160 characteristics. 

Email: Create the email portion of your payment request here. By using the toolbar you can use HTML formatting to customize your message. There is no need to include the #url# tag as your customer will be given a payment button to click.

Step 4: When creating your payment request, select your newly created message template.

Tags

Tags are placeholders you can type into your message template which can show details specific to the recipient of your payment request.

For example – you want to create a message template that will be sent to 100 people, each of whom owe you a different amount. You can use the #amount# tag as a placeholder in your message template which will automatically show the amount you request from an individual customer or donor.

#ref_number#
Displays the reference number for the transaction. The reference number can be any combination of letters or numbers you’d like to use to identify a single transaction, such as an invoice number.

Example

WRITE: Please complete your payment, regarding Ref: #ref_number#.

TO SEND: Please complete your payment, regarding Ref: 0123456789.

#amount#
Displays the payment amount requested from the customer or donor. You will set the actual amount when creating your payment request.

Example

WRITE: Please complete your payment for the amount of $#amount#.

TO SEND: Please complete your payment for the amount of $20.00.

#currency#

Displays the currency of the requested payment.

Example

WRITE: Please complete your payment for the amount of #currency##amount#.

TO SEND: Please complete your payment for the amount of USD 10.00.

#url#

Displays the payment link. ALWAYS INCLUDE THE #url# TAG IN TEXT MESSAGES IN ORDER TO TAKE PAYMENT.

#billed_date#
Displays the date your customer will be charged during each payment cycle.

Example

WRITE: Your card will be charged on the #billed_date# of every month.

TO SEND: Your card will be charged on the 10th of every month.

#expiry_date#
Displays the date your subscription payment link is set to expire.

Example

WRITE: This link will expire #expiry_date#.

TO SEND: This link will expire 2021-08-25.

#start_date#
Displays the date your subscription payment plan will process its first payment.

Example

WRITE: Your automatic payments will begin #start_date#.

TO SEND: Your automatic payments will begin 2018-08-25.

#subscription_duration#
Displays the number of payment periods in your customer’s subscription plan.

Example

WRITE: You will initiate a payment plan for #subscription_duration# months.

TO SEND: You will initiate a payment plan for 12 months.

#subscription_url#
Displays the subscription payment link. ALWAYS INCLUDE THE #subscription_url# TAG IN TEXT MESSAGES IN ORDER TO TAKE PAYMENT.

#email#
Displays the email address the payment request is sent to (when applicable).

Example

WRITE: We have made this payment link available to you at your email address: #email#.

#transaction_date#
Displays the date that the payment transaction was sent.

Example

WRITE: Your payment is now available as of #transaction_date#.

TO SEND: Your payment is now available as of 2017-05-23.

#mobile_no#
Displays the phone number the payment request is sent to (when applicable).

Example

WRITE: We have made this payment link available to you by text message via #mobile_no#.

TO SEND: We have made this payment link available to you by text message via +12223334444.

#customer_name#
If you have customer data on the recipient of your payment request saved in the ‘My Customers’ page, then you can use this tag to display their name in the payment request.

Example

WRITE: Hi #customer_name#! Please follow the link to settle your monthly payment.

TO SEND: Hi Janet Jones! Please follow the link to settle your monthly payment.

#billing_cycle#
Displays the frequency your customer will be charged on their billing date.

Example

WRITE: Your card will be charged on a(n) #billing_cycle# basis.

TO SEND: Your card will be charged on a Quarterly basis.

#scheduled_reference#

Displays the reference number for your scheduled payment.

Example

WRITE: Please complete your payment, regarding Ref: #scheduled_ref#.

TO SEND: Please complete your payment, regarding Ref: 0123456789.

#subscription_amount#

Displays the date your subscription payment plan will process its first payment.

Example

WRITE: You will be charged #subscription_amount# #currency# monthly.

TO SEND: You will be charged 200 USD monthly.

#subscription_duration_unit#
Displays the unit in which your payment period is specified.

Example

WRITE: You will initiate a 12 #subscription_duration_unit# payment plan.

TO SEND: You will initiate a 12 MONTH payment plan.

#customer_first_name#
If the message’s recipient is saved as a customer, this tag displays the customer’s first name.

Example

WRITE: Hello #customer_first_name#! Please follow the link below to pay.

TO SEND: Hello Aaron! Please follow the link below to pay.

#customer_last_name#
If the message’s recipient is saved as a customer, this tag displays the customer’s last name.

Example

WRITE: Hello #customer_name#! Please follow the link below to pay.

#salutation#
If the message’s recipient is saved as a customer, this tag display’s the customer’s salutation.
